After a bit of digging I stumbled upon this post, as well as this one. Both are filled with comments on how they were scammed by Uniquephones.com . I already opened a Paypal dispute, even tho it hasn’t even been the 12 hours, but judging by the comments the sooner I get the refund started the better. If they actually follow through on their promise, I will of course let it be known, but I get the feeling that is just not going to happen. Shoulda bought it on ebay. At least then I can get scammed in the way I am used to.

As I get the Rizr ready to ship off to it’s new owner, I thought I could use this chance to pry out another post from it, but seriously, I feel it is worthy of a quick review. The Motorola Rizr Z3 is without a doubt the best non smartphone I have owned. After having to give the first one back from a bad deal at work, I tried a lot of others while the price slowly came down. I managed to grab it for $130 on ebay, and it is very much worth the price. Comes equipped with a 2mp camera, which isĀ higher than most phones out now. The screen is a little smaller than most, but it is so clear and bright you don’t really notice it. It is loud as hell so I rarely missed any calls or messages on it. It has a micro sd slot for tunes, games, and pics which rocks. Call quality was awesome and the keypad is one of the best 10key setups I have tried so far. The battery life is insane. I charge my phones for a couple of hours before bed every day, and I never saw this one go below 2 bars.
As many good points as there are about the phone, there have to be some bad ones tho too right. Otherwise I wouldn’t have sold it…..putting aside that I am a cell junkie. As far as negative things about the phone, for me, all came down to the texting. While the keypad is super easy to feel the keys you need, and the buttons are very responsive, whoever decided to put the tiny backspace key right next to the end key should be shot. It wasn’t a huge deal for me and my nimble fingers, but I can see someone having some serious issues with that. Not so much a problem if you arent a big texter, and if thats the case you wont have much of a problem with my main gripe. The moto texting has come a good ways since the Razr V3, and does a lot better at predicting. Sometimes it even predicts my whole sentence, but when it doesnt it doesn’t even come close. It will pick some off the wall make believe word over something that is pretty common. Worse is when it predicts the entire word minus the final letter and you scroll through the options of the final letter only to see that the one friking letter you need isnt even an option! WTF! Nerve wrecking. But my number one main hate about this phone, and all other motos for that matter are when the prediction fails, and you dont notice till you are at the end of the sentence. The phone does a terrible job of sifting through previously typed words. Its slower than ass. Then you try to go back and fix where you typed used cisco and clear, clear, clear and oh shit i hit the end key and I am back at the home screen , and before you know it the phone is on ebay and you are writing a review on it to remind you of what pissed you off about it.
But aside from that, its probly my fav regular kind of phone. This phone just reminded me of why I need a full qwerty keypad. Other than that its pretty solid.
Pros:
Battery Life is great
Screen is bright and clear
Keypad feels nice
Camera rocks with 2mp
Edge Speed internet
Cons:
Moto software is still laggy
Texting could be improved on
Bad placement of clear/end keys
After my phone started pissing me off I started checking out a few others, and had narrowed it down to a Blast, Dash, or 629 Samsung Slider. I put my phone on ebay and it sold within a day or so. I emailed a ton of people on craigslist (18) and only got 2 or 3 responses. Then at work I tested out the Blast a bit more thoroughly and completely hated it. Samsung phones feel so cheap compared to Motorola. The call quality sucked, the keypad sucked, Opera Mini was blocked out, and I was told that the battery could be better. After putting my sim back in my w490 I completely lost the urge of getting a new phone, and despite the annoyances it is a bad ass phone, but since it was already sold I decided I could go ahead and get the Rizr Z3 which is the same phone in slider form. Moto4life!
It looks like we will need some new outdoor lighting with the Xmas lights coming down, so Smokey won’t have to sit in the dark lol.
Jen scored a deal on a “sturdy” rocking chair on ebay that the listing said it was “not wobbly at all”. They crammed it in the back of our van like they were in a hurry. Probly so they could get the hell out of there before we realized how big a piece of crap this thing is. It doesn’t even rock the way it is supposed to, kind of a diagonal rock. It looked like hell too. We ended it up dragging it out to the dumpster. We think it may also be haunted. If that is the case and there is some old woman ghost planning on sticking around we will be hitting up a realtor or two and getting the hizell out of here.
We finally got the stolen razr back from the person who bought it from us on ebay, and the guy we originally bought it from looks like he will cooperate in giving our money back so that we can refund the other person. Jen’s boss was super nice and gave me his old one, and even tho it showed sings of use, it still works great. Since the stolen phone looked brand new I figured it would be a waste to just give it back to him so he can toss it, so I managed to swap out the pieces to the majority of the phones, keeping the best pieces out of the two. It now looks like a brand new phone, and I am loving it. There is not a scratch on it. I even jacked the battery since mine didn’t have one. I consider it a fee for all our trouble with the stolen one.
In other news, we are finally getting to sit down on Thursday to find out which school Gavin will be hitting the books at. I hope they get him in quick and that it won’t change our schedules much.
Adding to the awesomeness of the past few days, we got a message from the ebay member who purchased a black razr from us stating that it did not work properly. We obtained the razr from someone on craigslist for 50 bucks, but I was unable to unlock it and sold it to her thinking it would be fine on Cingular. Turns out the reason I couldnt unlock it was cause it was stolen. The guy who sold it to us even admitted to finding it at a mall. It should be a ton of fun trying to get this mess sorted out, and on top of all this I still have to find a phone for myself before my return period is up. yay. I don’t know if I’m just tired from all the stress over the past few days, maybe i need a pulse oximeter to check that I am getting enough oxygen….or maybe not.
My Blackberry 7105t arrived and looks great. More importantly it appears to work flawlessly. There was an initial scare when I first powered it on and it said the sim card was rejected, but after restarting it again everything was fine. I made a few test calls and checked all the keys. So far so good. I just wiped all the software and am reinstalling everything fresh as I write this post. I’ve never screwed up a blackberry as far as the software goes, hopefully this wont be the first. Oh ya, need an Orlando rental home ? Me neither.
Once again I am waiting for the mailman to bring me a phone. I am really hoping that this one will work like it should. The last few that I’ve purchased all had something wrong with them, and somehow I managed to wipe all my contacts from my sim card, which is an added bonus. It should be here any minute now, it’s about the time that the mail usually arrives. I’m getting edgy worrying that this one is going to be all busted up as well. Maybe I will look around on travelpro to kill some time…
I recently sold a phone on ebay that was a big piece of crap, but because I got it for so cheap, I wasn’t too upset about it. We were even able to make a few bucks profit after selling it, but the person who bought it clearly was an idiot.
*Pulls out conference tables* Here is the email i received from them:
“Eric, i prefer to send this back for a refund. The phone doesnt work. It randomly shuts off while using it, even with a full charge. im not pleased. lets work something out here. you sold me a faulty phone. Thanks.”
Sounds reasonable enough right? Wrong. Take a look at the actual listing. What could anyone have expected to receive other than a broken phone. Here is the listing:
“This is a used Tmobile Motorola A630 that includes a battery, wall charger, and desktop charger. It shows signs of usage which you can see in the pictures. There is a bit of paint rubbed off on the center button, and a little crack in the 2 key, but does not effect anything other than their appearance. Some of the pics of the screen look weird and distorted, but it is just from the camera. The charger port will not charge the battery, which is why I got the desktop charger. The charge port is a known issue with this phone model, but the desktop charger is a simple solution. Also this phone will sometimes randomly shut off on me for no reason. I have no idea what the cause of this is. Phone will not include a sim card, but will work with your current tmobile sim. Sold for repair or parts. Because this phone is used it is sold as-is, and the sale is final with no returns. Thanks for looking. “
The sale of our couch to the psychotic break-down-the-door buyers is still the craziest ebay experience I’ve ever heard of, but this one is easily one of the dumbest.
