I think its about time to upgrade the ol pc a bit. Nothing over the top. maybe just another gig of ram, and possibly a new video card. No real point in upgrading the sound card as our speakers seem to be shot. Guess new speakers should be top priority, with a new mouse closely behind it. It is so bad. Didn’t pay hardly anything for it, but man it is trash. The wheel is going out and everything. I wouldn’t mind getting one with some extra buttons either. More is better. This is already starting to sound expensive. We don’t have any of those Outer Banks rentals around here. Maybe some cheap speakers and a decent mouse will do it. Its good to be a cheapskate.
*Edit-While writing this my wife was actually buying new speakers…..freaky.
I saw a link on the wow launcher for a new Warcraft laptop and had to check it out. It’s from Dell and it looks awesome. The art on the casing is nice, and you can choose your faction logo. The price is a bit outrageous, but I guess if you have money to blow, why not. I thought playing wow on a laptop was not so great. I had to buy a usb mouse and keyboard just to make it playable, but I guess if you played it on a touchpad for a while you could get used to it. Priced at almost $5k I don’t see them selling too well, even tho they are extremely nice looking. They should offer some type of computer rental so you can try it out and see how it is with a touchpad.
The other day while Gavin and I waited for his bus to come, he decided to bust out a little dance number while he sang some gibberish. Then Jen and I thought it would be funny to cut out his moved and edit them into a video. I really need to look into a better video editing software. Windows Movie Maker is so buggy and frustrating when you want to do something so small. I feel like I always have to take the long way around to do certain things.
Fun Fact: I have never been to Vegas, but if I did I would check out some Vegas hotels before I left. Yep
I just realized I never posted about our new monitor. My awesome wife froze her ass off for hours on Black Friday to be sure we got it. 22 inch Widescreen HD. It owns face. Viewing webpages with no need to scroll is great. And of course WOW looks frikin insane now. I don’t have to squint to read text anymore! Now we just need the TV equivalent. I wish I could get her maybe an Arizona bed and breakfast. That was a reach.
The other day while playing warcraft I hopped off for a second to grab a mod I needed. I went to wowui which has become the most popular wow mod site, and after grabbing the mod I needed I happened to see that there was an update to a fishing mod I already had. So I thought I might as well go ahead and update it. I installed everything and signed back on. A few minutes later tyler signed on and when I went to type him a message warcraft froze on me. This wasn’t the first time I had this issue so I restarted and thought nothing more of it. Once I got into the game my entire.interface, key bindings, and game options had all been reset. I assumed it was due to the restart so I redid them, logged out, and signed back in only to find they had reset again.
I checked the forums to see if I could find the cause of this, and found a few other peeps had the same issue. We eventually traced it back to the website we downloaded the mods from. We tried everything to remove the trojan, but the best we could do was to stop it from running with kaspersky, and before the day was over Jen said it flagged it as a keylogger. Yay.
So after work I had to reformat….again. Luckily Chip made me copies of his wow dvds so I didn’t have to do the dreaded 10 disc instal. We decided it was finally time to keep our pc a bit more secure , so I decided to go with mcafee and all their pc medical supplies since the free AVs didn’t stand up to the task. Seems to be decent so far, but we will see.
I have been getting a ridiculous amount of spam email lately. I am not quite sure what has caused the surge of crap mail, but for the most part Gmail has done a kick ass job of keeping it out of my inbox. Still for some reason it annoys me to get spam at all. I just can’t believe how full of bullshit the internet still is. Ads on every damn page, popups, adware, spyware, viruses, and spam…. it’s nuts.
Even with the added ram and video, Vista was still driving me nuts. What a piece of crap. I immediately had compatibility problems with the first 3 games I tried, and then for some reason it seemed like Vista was choking on itself ever few seconds. Needless to say I have ditched it once again and gone back to good ol XP. Time spent much longer with Vista and a prescription drug addiction would be just around the corner. Maybe I will give them a year or so to make it suck less and I’ll try again.
My video card has finally arrived, and I can now resume the quest for finding a game that doesn’t completely suck. Maybe game companies should do a little more than market research alone before creating and releasing such garbage. Surely there is something worth playing that isn’t fps or rts. My big S-video cable also arrived and I have now got my monitor cloned onto the big screen. It looks really sweet when running emulators. Think I’ll give Titan Quest a try. It looks decent, but who knows.
With the extra cash from some sold phones, and my psp, I did a bit of upgrading to the pc. Not a whole lot, just some ram and video, but because the video card is coming from frikking Hong Kong it still isn’t here yet. I am starting to get a bit antsy. I have all these new games to try out and write about how much they suck, but until my card gets here I can’t run them at all. I am thinking with some of my PayPerPost money I should pick up another gig of ram while it is cheap. I think a grand total of $150 bucks (2 gigs of ram, X700 video) to considerably upgrade your pc is a steal. I am getting off cheap.
My boy Jeff recently dropped almost 3 grand on a new pc, but considering the amount of time he ran off the beast of a pc that was his previous one, it was money well spent and long overdue. Tyler also just tossed damn near a grand into his computer to upgrade it. New monitor, new video, Vista, and maxxed out his ram. He really got the shaft on the ram. His ram slots were all full with 512 sticks, so to upgrade to 4 gig he had to ditch the 2 gig that was in it. Bummer. Maybe he can make some back on ebay tho.
Now that all my gaming buddies have some decent hardware we can finally find something worth playing. I doubt it tho.
With the money earned from the sale of the PSP, I decided to finally upgrade the pc a bit and ordered a new video card and another gig of ram. With as much as we use the computer its a much needed upgrade, and I can finally check out some of the newer pc games I missed out on. Now we just need a nice viewsonic monitor to go with it.
