Christmas time is getting near again, and this year it may a good idea to consider using LED Christmas lights. Standard incandescent lights are outdated, inefficient, costly, and bad for the environment, but LED Christmas lights use a lot less energy, 1/10th the energy to be exact and will last for more than 50,000 hours compared to less than 2000 for standard incandescents. That is huge. The lights are also much safer because they create very little heat, actually only 1 degree above ambient temperature. LED holiday lights also are very durable as they are constructed of a nearly indestructible epoxy plastic and contain no fragile filament or glass like incandescents. We have had our set for quite some time and they are still holding up like they were new. A recent EPA report determined that if 20% of American homes switched to LED Christmas lights during the average 30 day holiday season it would save 400GWh of electricity, that is nuts. There really is no reason to keep around the old, wasteful, and somewhat dangerous old style of Christmas lights.
