Samsung T429 Review

After taking back the T429 and looking to see if others had the same issues as me, I noticed there are basically no reviews on the phone. I guess it is just too new. So I decided to post my own at phonescoop.com to hopefully steer others away from it. Now I am starting to wish that I had done the same for the other forty something phones I have owned, if only to just prevent myself from a repurchase. It’s pretty cool being one of the first to bust out a review for it. I will have to remind myself to do the same for any future phones I may will own re-own.

Pasted from PhoneScoop.com:

I’ve Owned Worse

This phone has a really nice look to it. It’s not often that you see a cheap slider phone either. The blue gray color makes it look like a pricier phone. The keys are laid out very nicely and have just enough space between them.
I never had any problems with a double press while texting, and found that out of all the phones I have owned, I probably texted faster on the T429 than any of the others. A lot of this was probly due to the fact that this Samsung phone has the same software as some of their higher end models, which is nice and fast. The ringers and tones are nice and loud, and call quality was good enough. Like most Samsung phones the battery is killer, even with high usage.

But that is where the good ends. The slider wore out in less than a week, and would almost lock into the open position, requiring a slam to get it to shut back. This resulted several times in a near drop. The entire phone feels really cheap. Like a toy. While the buttons themselves had a sturdy feel to them, the phone as a whole feels as tho it will fall to pieces on its next slide.

For me the worst part of the phone was easily the display. The screen has a decent size, but is near impossible to see in the sun. Even with the brightness set to max it is a strain to read anything. Toss in the bland 65k colors and this phone really shows its cheapness. I am not sure the price Tmobile is offering this with an upgrade as I have already used mine. So flat out this phone will run you $129.99 which to me is an outrage. It simply is not worth the price. Even if the price were cut in half it would still cost you more than the Nokia 6030 or 2610, both of which are far more sturdy than this phone.

Pros:
Great keypad
Fast software
Loud Tones
Great Battery
Mostly clear calls

Cons:
Bad in the sun
Washed out 65k color display
Feels extremely cheap
Slide wears out FAST

Score One for Craigslist

Adding to the awesomeness of the past few days, we got a message from the ebay member who purchased a black razr from us stating that it did not work properly. We obtained the razr from someone on craigslist for 50 bucks, but I was unable to unlock it and sold it to her thinking it would be fine on Cingular. Turns out the reason I couldnt unlock it was cause it was stolen. The guy who sold it to us even admitted to finding it at a mall. It should be a ton of fun trying to get this mess sorted out, and on top of all this I still have to find a phone for myself before my return period is up. yay. I don’t know if I’m just tired from all the stress over the past few days, maybe i need a pulse oximeter to check that I am getting enough oxygen….or maybe not.

It Shall Be Missed

It doesn’t surprise me that after finally finding a perfect phone at a sweet price, something had to go wrong. The retard I bought it from found out that he was going to be charged $250 for it and came crying to me that he needed to buy it back. I knew this was going to happen. I guess he actually thought he was going to get to keep the phone for free and is why he sold it to me, thinking he could profit of it cause you know…Tmobile won’t notice that phone just vanished. Dumb Ass.
For some crazy reason I still felt like an ass to keep the phone tho, so I sold it back to him for 10 bucks more than I paid, and I kept the memory card for my trouble. Now I have some crappy Samsung T429. It’s not the worst phone in the world, but its no Rizr. I would just get another one but they are way too expensive. If i had the cash for that I would just go ahead and sign up for some caribbean cruises while I am at it.

Waste of Time

For the most part of Saturday my wife walked the car lot trying to get someone to help her out so that we could get the process of buying the Accord started. I was busy working, so there was not a whole lot that I could help with. I managed to get enough time that we could take it for a test drive, and aside from a few fixable issues, we liked it. So I went back to working while she went to get the van appraised again since we were a day over the limit. After what seemed like forever they came back with the same offer and they got started with a credit app. By this time I was pretty much done and came up front to watch the wrapping up of what we thought was a done deal.

Unfortunately even tho the car we were buying was much cheaper than what we had already financed on the van, they would not finance the negative equity. I know they have their reasons, but to me it is stupid that they are not willing to finance it even tho the grand total is cheaper than what we already have. So basically the day was a waste, and we have decided to try to sell the van ourselves to pull in the slack, and try to get the Accord before someone else snatches it up. It wouldn’t kill them to look into some better human resources software to gain a little insight on their employees.

Still Waiting

I thought for sure the Accord would have rolled in by now, but of course it still hasn’t. Today would have worked out very nicely cause I could have checked it out during work, and then got the ball rolling to buy it when I got off. But now it will probably come in tomorrow when I will be stuck there until closing. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to work while buying a car. It really gets me that we are having to pay such a high trucker fee when it is taking a ridiculous amount of time to arrive. Ah well. Maybe I can check out some Wilmington NC real estate while I wait. Not saying I will, but I could.

Burnout

Man is it getting harder and harder to care about posting. I even have another link for drug rehabilitation. It’s like a rerun in blog form. A few more and I will be up there with VH1.

The car we had transferred in still has not shown up yet. I am guessing it will roll in today at some point, not that I even care anymore. It will at least be interesting to see how bad the trucking company bangs it up. They have a bad rep for messing up cars. Guess we will see.

One Phone to Rule Them All

Send out the wedding invitations. I have found The One. I scored a wicked sick deal on a Moto Rizr Z3 from a dude at work. I had zero expectations for this phone and figured it would just be a Razr that slides instead of flips, but it is so much better. They took almost everything I hated about the Razr and fixed it, then added a sweet rubbery coating on the casing of the phone. It has a media slot for pics, mp3, and videos. But what has to be my favorite thing about the phone is not only does it run all the Razr compatible java games, but that it runs them at the speed they were meant to be. Throw in the fact that instead of the tedious install process for games on a razr you can simply dump all of the java apps to the mem card and install from the phone. So I currently have over a hundred games installed on it and they run great and look nice and crisp on the new display.
My only real complaint is the fact that because it is a sliding phone instead of a flip the main display is completely unprotected. I’ve never been so worried about dropping a phone, and I’m sure that since I have finally found one I really like that I will drop this one and it will be ruined. Surely I can find something on ebay that will keep it safe.

Smoke it Up

The other day Jen and I were thinking back to when we used to smoke, and decided we were going to be crazy and smoke while we had a drink. She went and got a pack of Camels and some cheap cigars, along with some alcohol. We had everything you need for a killer night. We even had some decent outdoor lighting for our smokefest. After less than a drink Jen was ready to light up. We went out and fired them up only to be a bit grossed out by the smell. As far as I know this was our first time smoking in just over a year. I guess we don’t have to worry about starting back up again. It was nothing like we remembered.

It never fails

It never fails to amaze me how much a certain car dealership constantly contradicts everything they claim to be about. Here we are once again trying to get the process started of having a car shipped in to buy it….making them money. Yet despite the fact this will be our fourth time to purchase from them, we are treated as if we are wasting their time. Were it not for the discount, there is no way in hell I would ever buy a car from them, let alone ever recommend a family member buy there.

The entire process is an absolute headache, from the time you walk in the door to the 30th day after you have bought the car and are still trying to get the service department to fix the crap that was wrong with it when you bought the damn thing. It is amazing the way they boast and brag about how much better their cars and service are than typical car dealers, while the whole time being a carbon copy of everything they claim they are not. What a joke. I wonder if it is the same way out in Branson Missouri. Probly not, cause it’s such an awesome place to go and do stuff.
