Noobification

I have recently been messing around with a couple of RTS (Real Time Strategy) games. I’ve never been a big fan of the genre, but since everything else sucks so bad I decided I would actually try and learn it enough that I may actually enjoy it. Luckily there are plenty to choose from on PC, which is normally one of the things I complain about.

I started off trying Warcraft 3 again. It has great reviews and is still supported by Blizzard. I was expecting it to be like Age of Empires 2 and in many ways it is, except harder than hell. I suck hard at this game. My entire base and army are wiped out by the first rush. The only way I live long enough to actually do anything is if there is no rush, which only delays my inevitable ass kicking.

I have also been kicking around Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. This one is growing on me. It’s a little different than other RTS I have played and seems like it may be the one I put most of my time into. I also plan to check out Company of Heroes which seems very similar. Can you say headache treatment? On the other hand it is fun being a total noob at a genre. I can only get better…I hope.

My biggest issue with RTS is the time invested in building up your base and army, only to be crushed in a matter of minutes by the other team. You think you are doing really good and getting your stuff together and then the other team walks along and wipes you out like it is noting.
