Grade School Cell

I just saw a commercial for Target back to school junk, and one of the first clips was some kids drawing with some chalk or something. Next to them was a calculator. The camera zoomed in all dramatically on the calculator. The funny thing is my first reaction to this was “what the hell kind of cellphone is that?”. But it didn’t stop there. The next clip showed kids going crazy in the classroom, where I noticed yet another calculator and my next thought was “what do kids this age need with a …..oooohhhh thats a calculator!!!”

Since when do they let kids at that age use calculators anyway? Are they really letting kids be that mentally lazy that early in school now? It really wouldn’t surprise me. Half of them probly bust into kindergarten with a blackberry, and payroll software on their new laptop. Personally I feel that if you aren’t old enough to drive, then you really have no business with a cellphone. But whatever.

I noticed that. . . I hate that we weren’t allowed to use calculators the first could of years in college, then all of a sudden, we could. And the approved calculator? A $300 machine that, well, wasn’t really worth it.

Oh yah I just got your comment about the aliens and stuff…

It bewilders me that people will so quickly write off a theory like that, and yet they will believe everything written in a book thats like a bad mashup of 2000yr old gossip.
I also have this theory about magic mushrooms being used a lot in biblical times..ill have to write an entry about it sometime but people seriously think im insane.
But, if anyones ever tripped mushrooms..they may see burning bushes, and theyll probably talk to God, and if they tripped mushrooms..theyd understand this theory so much more but theres a lot of “evidence” of it in the Bible. (If you can refer to anything Biblical as “evidence”)

Yeahhh I didn’t need a calculator until high school, but everyone in the years below me has been using them all throughout middle school. They definitely will not be able to add and subtract in their heads…

i started using calculators in algebra 2 in high school…im guessing the kids in the commercial were very young so uh thats weird…and it sucks for them because they wont get used to doing mental math

Haha, I totally agree that if they’re not old enough to drive, they shouldn’t even have a cell phone. its getting ridiculous, they even have cell phone plans for the school children!
